Ingredients

Meatballs
  • 2 lb frozen fully cooked meatballs Use frozen, fully cooked meatballs so they just warm through.
Cranberry BBQ sauce
  • 1 can (14 oz) jellied cranberry sauce Jellied form helps the sauce turn glossy and thick as it warms.
  • 1 cup BBQ sauce Choose a smoky BBQ sauce for best flavor match.
  • 2 tbsp sriracha Adjust to your heat preference if needed.
  • 1 tbsp apple cider vinegar Adds tang and balances the sweetness.
  • 0.5 tsp garlic powder
  • 0.5 tsp chipotle chili powder
Garnish
  • 1 jalapeno, for garnish Thinly sliced jalapeno adds fresh crunch and visible heat.
  • chopped fresh parsley for garnish Adds color and freshness right before serving.

Equipment

  • 1 slow cooker

Method

Make the cranberry BBQ sauce
  1. Whisk jellied cranberry sauce, BBQ sauce, sriracha, apple cider vinegar, garlic powder, and chipotle chili powder in the slow cooker until smooth, with no visible cranberry lumps.
  2. Add frozen fully cooked meatballs and stir to coat so the sauce clings evenly to the outside.
Slow cook
  1. Cover and cook on LOW for 3-4 hours or HIGH for 2 hours, stirring once halfway to prevent sticking and ensure even warming.
  2. When done, stir until the sauce is thick and glossy and the meatballs are fully heated through with a uniform red color.
Garnish and serve
  1. Top the meatballs with thinly sliced jalapeno and chopped fresh parsley, then keep on WARM so the sauce stays thick and pourable for serving.
  2. Serve hot with toothpicks, letting the sauce drip slightly from the meatballs for a shiny finish.

Notes

Pro tip: if the sauce seems thin at the end, keep the slow cooker on WARM and stir a few times until it turns glossy. Store leftovers in an airtight container in the refrigerator up to 4 days; reheat in the slow cooker on LOW until hot. Freezing is not recommended because the cranberry sauce can lose texture after thawing. For a lower-sugar option, use a reduced-sugar BBQ sauce and keep the cranberry sauce as written for the signature thick, tangy coating.
